aboutFind Your French Town
Find Your French Town helps people of modest to middle-class means figure out where in France they could actually live, and then helps them get there. It is not a relocation agency and it is not a bus tour. It is a community: people who are considering France, people who are already living there part of the year, and a small circle of local experts who share what they know.
How it started
Find Your French Town grew out of founder Marilee Taussig‘s own lifelong habit of stepping out of her element. It began with a family year in Europe in 1968, continued through decades in her parents’ pioneering slow-travel company, and turned into a question she kept hearing from friends and readers: “I would love to live in France for a while. Where would I even start?” This site is her answer.
What you will find here
- 50 featured towns. Each has a plain-language scorecard: population, region, cost of living, health resources, climate, how easy it is to get there and get around, and a "friendly factor" for how international the town feels. Read the pluses, the possible minuses, and who recommends it.
- A community that talks back. A free weekly community Zoom call (Saturdays, 11:30 am Eastern US), regional forums, and a companion Facebook group, Part-time or Trying out Life in France, with thousands of members focused on practical problem-solving: housing, transport, and the everyday logistics of staying three months or so.
- Real conversations. Start with a free preliminary consult with Marilee, then, when you are ready, a discovery call and ongoing guidance from national and local experts.
- Try it before you commit. Try-It-Out trips (September 2026 in Angers), A Season in France for a longer immersion, and a longer-stays program that arranges discounted rentals for 30 to 90 day stays.
Don't assume you know what's happening. The abiding wisdom and surpassing joy of knowing you are out of your element keeps you wide awake.
